Story
Dear family and friends,
Please help raise funds to give me the gift of my lifetime - a beautiful glass photographic portrait of myself by world-renowned portrait and fashion photographer Robbie Merritt - and support the work of an incredible local charity - Cancer Support WA.
Please show your support by sponsoring my portrait.
Thank you,
Jessica Barnden
P.S. All money goes to Cancer Support WA and if I raise over $1000 I get to keep my photo that will be in the exhibition (as described above).
MY STORY
You are beautiful.
My half brother Callum was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia (ALL) in 2009. You can read his story which is with his photo also in the You Are Beautiful Exhibition.
Being a part of camp quality I met many other people in similar situations. One little boy my family and I met was the same age as Callum and had the same type of cancer. Callum became great friends with the boy, named Kael, but unfortunately he passed away at the age of seven. This hit home, and later in the year when Callum got quite sick it made it hard to deal with. Callum's mum had just had another baby a few months earlier and our half sister, Ashleigh, took some days off school to help out with our baby brother at the hospital while Callum was sick. Luckily he got through it and is now over a year "cancer free".
A friend I met along the way finished his treatment around the same time as Callum. Unfortunately, later in the year my friend, Buds (David), relapsed for the second time. I went in to Princess Margaret Hospital (PMH) many times to visit him as he was nearly always there. In April of this year he became very sick and was in ICU for a few weeks before passing away at the age of 16.
I have participated in a few fundraising events over the years and this year I shaved my long hair off for "The World's Greatest Shave". I raised more money than I had planned, which is amazing. It's an honour to be able to raise money for foundations such as Cancer Support WA and to know that I am helping people who are going through similar experiences to what I have been through.
SMILE! :)
Thank you,
Jessica Barnden
