Story
Dear family and friends,
Please help raise funds to give me the gift of my lifetime - a beautiful glass photographic portrait of myself by world-renowned portrait and fashion photographer Robbie Merritt - and support the work of an incredible local charity - Cancer Support WA.
Please show your support by sponsoring my portrait.
Thank you,
Jason Richard Edward Crawford
JASON's JOURNEY
2012 began with the birth of my first child, a daughter Makaydee Lee, the happiness, the joy and overwhelming love for a new life. 2012 ended for me in a world of chaos, disbelief and fear. The 4th December 2012 is forever etched in my memory, the day my world turned upside down.
I went to work like every other day, only to find myself a few hours later feeling dazed and confused in an ambulance. I had a seizure, an event which has changed my perspective on life, the cause, a brain tumour. The nervous wait for neurosurgery and pathology, only to reveal our worst fears the tumour was considered to be Grade IV Glioblastoma Multiforme, the most aggressive brain cancer, with poor prognosis.
The roller coaster began, the thoughts, emotions, the overwhelming fear of not seeing my daughter go to school, learn to drive, become an adult, get married…. No, this was not on my agenda, I was going to fight, I was going to be different, the cancer was not going to beat me. I drew support from my family and friends and internalised the strength, determination and courage needed to enter the battle with which I now refer to as the ‘beast.’
Treatment continued, radiation therapy, chemotherapy and this is still ongoing. Recently I have returned to work and take every day as a gift. To this day I believe the brain is a very powerful tool in these unfortunate circumstances, I never doubted once that I wouldn’t beat cancer. I draw strength from the love of my family and friends, from the spirit in my daughter’s eyes as she explores and learns about her world. The one piece of advice I have for others is listen to your body, stay strong and positive, and the power of the mind is an unrelenting force. Every day I now smell and breathe life differently, I feel I am a very lucky man.
Thank you,
Jason Richard Edward Crawford
